Exponent Mistakes (9/11/14)

This year I decided to use Andrew’s idea from his Estimation 180 lessons page involving teaching exponent concepts by first presenting the students with common mistakes involving the different exponent properties and having them try to find the mistakes and figure out how to solve them correctly. It led to some great discussions in the groups, especially involving raising a number to the 0 power and negative exponents. One student asked, “Is there even such a thing as a negative exponent?” We’ll go over them all tomorrow and they’ll find out that there sure is! If you’re curious, here is the worksheet I gave them (slightly modified from Andrew’s).
